This policy report, released by the Andalus Committee — King’s College London Branch — provides an assessment of the UAE’s deepening partnership with Indonesia within a rapidly shifting Global South. It traces the evolution of bilateral ties and examines how the 2022 Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), strengthened by both countries’ accession to BRICS, can serve as a foundation for an inclusive model of South–South Islamic economic cooperation aligned with shared development priorities. The report assesses CEPA’s potential to expand halal trade, strengthen Islamic finance, advance digital economy integration, and support sustainable infrastructure. As both states pursue diversification beyond hydrocarbons and seek more resilient supply chains, it identifies persistent regulatory and logistical barriers that must be addressed. To accelerate progress, the report recommends regulatory harmonisation, targeted SME support, enhanced digital connectivity, and stronger coordination of Islamic social finance to translate CEPA’s ambitions into sustained and inclusive economic impact.
