"From Aid to Trade: Transforming Japan-Sub-Saharan Africa Relations"
Kento Ono, Nicolas Valladolid, Raphaela Douglas
Andalus London Report
-
This report highlights opportunities for Japan in Sub-Saharan Africa, emphasizing that while Japan's political involvement has been significant, its economic and humanitarian engagement remains limited. It recommends three key actions: (1) Strengthening multilateral ties by positioning Japan as a key regional partner, (2) Developing key infrastructure, particularly in transportation, to support African economic integration and benefit Japan’s industries, and (3) Creating differentiated conditionality regimes that align with African nations' preferences for less restrictive aid.
